Catching Up on Conference Takeaways: Our Key Insights from HCAA & SIIA
Conference season is kicking into gear, with industry professionals gathering once again to explore what challenges we’ll be facing (or are already facing) this year. RMTS is ready, set, and on the go to bring you back the highlights from our own conference tours, making sure you stay on top of the latest industry insights right alongside us.
This month, we’re bringing you our key insight from the HCAA Executive Forum and the SIIA Spring Forum.
HCAA Executive Forum
The RMTS team had the opportunity to once again attend the HCAA Executive Forum, meeting with other industry leaders as we met to discuss “soaring success” and how to get there in an increasingly complex (and costly) healthcare space. The conference opened up with a talk surrounding how the food-health relationship is affecting chronic disability or disease, for better or for worse. The session gave timely insights into the current trajectory of our healthcare system—heading “off a cliff with no brakes”—as well as the role we can play in turning the car around for a better system of understanding and interconnection.
As the conference proceeded, it was no surprise that the implications of the 2024 election were brought up. With everyone left wondering how the new administration will impact healthcare regulations and policies, especially on a long-term basis, efforts to modernize the healthcare system are more appreciated than ever. Mental health benefits also saw a good deal of conversation, along with the latest trends in leveraging mental health benefits as a strategic advantage.
Most pressing seems to be the continued threat of data breaches. No one is forgetting incidents like the Change Healthcare breach anytime soon, and the continuously growing threat of cyber-attacks on personal healthcare information is something we should all keep in mind. Are you confident in your cybersecurity system? Have you identified any areas that could be a weak link? From what we saw at HCAA, it’s a good time to be asking yourself that twice.
SIIA Spring Forum
Throughout the conference, we saw legislative updates for the self-insurance industry covered, specifically focused on the effects the new presidential administration and Congress will bring. High-cost prescription drug benefits took the spotlight again, continuing to rest at the front of people’s minds thanks to the increased strain of those costs. And of course, the use of AI had its time in the spotlight as well, with speakers focused on the transformative potential of AI in the self-insurance industry, including:
- Real-world applications of AI in consulting and client engagement
- Strategies for customizing AI solutions to meet unique needs
- Challenges, opportunities, and ethical considerations regarding AI
Looking Ahead: Getting Renewal-Ready
We could go on and on about what’s in store for the healthcare industry, but it’s fairly clear what issues are continuing to dominate the industry. Data breaches, data security, and fiduciary liability continue to be hot topics, and for good reason. With the stress of renewals around the corner, the last thing anyone needs is a data breach to ruin their year.
At RMTS, we’re here to eliminate any of that stress that we can—and make sure your year stays productive and successful. We have the strong advantage of working with experts who have seen it all in the industry, staying in touch with leaders on a regular basis. When it comes to renewals—and in this case, 7/1 renewals—there’s no one better to craft solutions tailored to unique risk profiles and populations.
